I’m letting go of negative self-talk and replacing it with the self-appreciation exercise each day. — Gregory S.

Simply Ridiculous Behavior #12 - Faking and Pretending

"Watch this move!"

Faking and pretending or the need to look good by putting on airs and masquerading is Simply Ridiculous. I found myself getting into debt, buying a bunch of crap that I didn’t need and running up credit cards to buy clothes to hit the streets and look good with the girls. I used to fake it like I knew who I was and act like I had it going on. In reality I was like a lost kitten, just wanting to be loved and looking for a home. Faking it and pretending to be something or someone I’m not got to be expensive and exhausting before I finally decided to let it go.

Now, the LIGMO Movement has me…

“Learning to be myself from the inside out.”

I came to the realized that I had to figure out this thing called life on my own and that being who I “was to be” was a choice I got to make. I had created my past life by imitating others, making bad choices and faking a song and dance. I now create the present and future I want to live by making a new set of choices. I get to create it all – what I wear, where I go, what I do, who I hang out with, what I eat, how I see the world, what books I read, what friends I make – I get to choose what’s real for me.

Learning to be myself is an emergent, organic and ongoing activity. Most importantly, I understand that being wonderful or beautiful starts on the inside and that outer appearances need be the least of my concerns. I now choose to just let who I am emerge instead of trying to match up with some preconceived idea of who and what I should be. All that faking and false pretense is actually pretty boring. I’ve let it go.

What are you ready to let go of?
